As a perfectionist by nature, one thing I struggle with is leaving lines imperfect. In fact, it stops me sleeping. This design, however, originally a Teeshirt design specifically for orange garments encouraged imperfect lines. Based on the classic Americana paper decorations for Halloween produced by the company Beistle (you know the ones, with metal rivets in the joints so they could be moved around) the outlines, though imperfect were the most important part and if you look at Beistle's use of colour in their decorations they are clearly screen printed, often at speed, culminating in micro imperfections, poor print transfer and overlapping colours. Resisting the urge to colour accurately and within the lines I tried to simulate this style of speed over quality print. I am actually happy with how it turned out and think both this and the Scratch Cat are a tasteful homage to Beistle's art style both aesthetically and in how it is coloured. Now, back to colouring within the lines...
