Elliot's current design project...
Staying razor sharp with design skills between jobs is of utmost importance to me and something I pursue with gusto. Creating new and exciting personal designs allows me to not only maintain a high skill level but also allows me to try new techniques and approaches to design in a situation which allows for different styles and aesthetics to be experimented with. To that end, I was inspired by Inktober 2018 and the prompt list that comes with it. Inktober is an initiative designed to inspire artists to create daily artworks in October each year via a daily prompt word intended to fuel the creative juices!
Inktober 2018's prompt list was particularly interesting to me, in part due to the fact that many of the words have multiple interpretations. So I began my journey to complete 31 images (though I didn't set myself the limit of 1 day for each - can you imagine?) I chose to do all images in black, grey and white and frame them all in either a square or diagonal square in order to help tie such unrelated images together.
In order to maximise the potential use of the images across different mediums, and to further challenge myself, I decided to create a white background and then on different layers create each image using the brush tool and the eraser tool to effectively create varied negative spaces, rather than using white - meaning each image is actually made up of various opacity blacks, and limiting the colour palette to one colour.
As this is an ongoing project in between other designs, I have currently completed 24 of the 31 prompts. Only 7 to go!
